Meet our LumberLay collection

3D filaments

We are pleased to present our renewed line of PLA Wood filaments – LumberLay! While the trusted formulation remains unchanged, we’ve expanded the range with new wood shades available in the Refill option, offering even more variety for your projects and applications.

Why LumberLay?

LumberLay filaments combine 40% recycled wood and 60% PLA material. This means that prints from this filament have the feel, look and even smell of real wood. If your project requires a natural, rustic finish, LumberLay is the filament for you.

The entire collection is available on Refill spools that are compatible with our Master Spool and Bambu Lab reusable spool. This means that the filaments from this collection are truly environmentally friendly, as in addition to 40% recycled wood, the filament is applied to a reusable reel.

Printing reccomendations

Printing filaments from the LumberLay collection is quite simple, but you still need to pay attention to a few key things:

  • Always print with an abrasion-resistant 0.6mm nozzle. Since there is real wood in the filament, the 0.4mm can clog the nozzle and cause quite a few problems.
  • The old saying “slow goes a long way” applies to LumberLay filaments. These are definitely not “high-speed” filaments and require more patience for quality results.
  • Print at temperatures between 200 and 230°C. You may need to adjust the temperature slightly depending on your printer model.
  • For better adhesion of the first layer, heat the printing plate to 60°C and use an additional adhesive such as 3Dlac for example.

If you are interested in all the technical details of the filament, read the Technical Data Sheet.

Frequently asked questions

Is wood filament stronger than PLA?

Wood or LumberLay filaments are not stronger than ordinary PLA filaments, as they are slightly more fragile due to the wood fragments. Although they provide the beautiful look and feel of real wood, they are not suitable for technical applications.

Do I need a special nozzle to print with wood filament?

Yes, for printing with wood or LumberLay filaments, we recommend a 0.6mm abrasion-resistant nozzle. Wood particles in the filament can clog your 0.4mm nozzle and cause you problems.

Do wood filaments absorb water?

Filaments containing wood are certainly sensitive to moisture and consequently also absorb water. We advise you to store them in a dry place in an airtight bag or container.
