One of the things we constantly think about is how to become a more eco-friendly company. In hopes you will join us in building a brighter future, we wanted to show you how we are reducing the impact of the 3D industry and plastics manufacturing on the environment.
At the beginning of 2022, our journey to sustainable 3D printing began. This is when our development team achieved a significant breakthrough in spool injection moulding technology. We used this technology to make our spools from 100% recycled materials. Moreover, this new innovative process not only improved production efficiency but also reduced energy consumption by 47%.
But of course, we didn’t stop there! With every new day, we are taking steps towards greener business practices. Check out what we have to offer and join us in sustainable 3D printing practices.
Refill, reuse and reduce!
REELfinity Refill Spool
If you use your 3D printer at home, you probably know how many empty spools go in the trash. Knowing that there is already enough garbage in the world, we started thinking about what we could do.
We concluded that the best solution is to enable everyone to print their filament spools at home. Creating an STL file of the spool and giving it for free to our customers was the best idea!
This could be your last spool. Why not try it?
To get the REELfinity just download our STL file and print the spool on your 3D printer. You will get two separate pieces that you can pop together after adding the filament in between. Place the filament on the spool and turn it around for about 45 degrees. Watch an assembly video here.
At AzureFilm, we didn’t just focus on the environmental impact of our product. We also made sure to improve the mechanical functions of our spool:
- Bigger holes on each side allow easier printing. The holes also reduce the possibility of errors during printing.
- Functional pin to secure your filament when the spool is not in use.
- A rectangular hole to help you close the spool. Once the refill filament is on the spool, you pinch the ties off and the filament spool is ready for use.
- A measurement system on one side of the spool. Here you will be able to tell how much filament you have left approximately.
Using the REELfinity spool is a great way to reduce waste and contribute to a greener future. Join us in our mission towards sustainable 3D printing and get your hands on the REELfinity spool today. Let’s refill, reuse, and reduce together!
Refill PETG filaments
Now that we have a refill spool, we also need refill filaments, don’t you agree?
Introducing our new Refill PETG filaments, available in White, Black, Grey, Blue, Lipstick Red, and Tiger Orange. We designed these 1KG filaments to use with our REELfinity spool, which reduces waste and minimizes the impact on the environment. Moreover, PETG filaments are 100% recyclable when discarded correctly.
Currently, we are offering Refill PETG filaments in the 6 most popular colours. However, we are committed to expanding our Refill line to include all of our filaments. We value your feedback and would love to hear from you about which filaments you would like to see in our Refill line. Your input will help us prioritize our efforts in making sustainable choices more accessible to everyone.
Choose Sustainability. Choose UNSET Filaments.
Do you know our UNSET filaments? The UNSET filament is made from leftover materials during the production of our PLA, ASA, ABS, Silk and PETG filaments. This means we recycle every piece of leftover material and nothing goes to waste.
The result is a high-quality filament with a perfect diameter that may come out of production with a different mixture of colouring, making every print unique. UNSET colours are not part of our standard catalogue, but they offer endless possibilities for those who want to experiment with different shades. You never know what colour you’re going to get, but that’s part of the fun! So, if you want to turn trash into a treasure you need our UNSET filament.

Breaking down plastics: The biodegradability of PLA filaments
Although the 3D industry still has a lot of room to become greener and environmentally friendlier, biodegradable filaments have been available for quite some time. We are talking about PLA filaments, which are also among the most popular filaments.
PLA is made from plant-based renewable and biodegradable raw materials which makes it both biodegradable and recyclable. Because of this, PLA is much better for the environment than some other materials like ASA for example.
Let’s make a greener world together
In conclusion, as a society, we need to become more conscious of the impact we have on the environment. At AzureFilm, we are committed to sustainability and reducing waste in the 3D printing industry. We are constantly developing new ways to help the green revolution. We encourage everyone to take steps towards a greener future, whether it’s by recycling, reducing waste, or choosing sustainable products. Let’s work together to create a more beautiful and sustainable world. Choose sustainability, choose AzureFilm.
