Fans perform several different jobs inside a 3D printer: cooling printed layers, preventing heat creep in the hotend and moving air across electronics. A failing fan can lead to poor overhangs, clogs, overheating or unreliable electronics. Identify the fan's role before choosing a replacement, then match voltage, dimensions, connector, mounting and airflow direction. Part-cooling and hotend fans are not always interchangeable even when they share the same size.
